blessing and thousands are expected to pack st. peter's square and look how happy everybody is. did you see him. >> sad news to tell you about this tragic accident a local race track in california a 17-year-old driver lost control of his car during the warm-up laps and crashed into a wall and two people. and it may have hadoblem. killed a 68-year-old and a 14-year-old. >> we deal with this when tragedy happens. we never know when it happens and our hearts go out to the families. >> the driver was not hurt and all proceeds from the race are donated to the victims' family. and another tragedy, a wombus carrying a lacrosse team

indistinguishable. but in any event, some say he stole part of the show, dr. ben carson announced he is retiring, 106 days. >> countdown clock. >> alisyn: everybody wants to know what he'll be doing in retirement after he's taken some of the political stage? >> well, you know the second that tape of him at the national prayer breakfast, speaking with the president beside him looking as uncomfortable as i've seen president obama look, from that moment the you knew he had a career on the national stage. >> clayton: as a brain surgeon criticizing obama's health care plan during the the prayer breakfast saying there was another way, the president looked withered at that moment. and here is dr. carson saying what it would take forward in the white house. >> if i were trying to destroy this nation. let's say you magically you know, put me into the white house. all right, i take it back.

(laughter) but let's say somebody was there and -- and they wanted to destroy this nation. what would you do? let me tell you what i would do. first of all, i would create division among the people. i would have everybody pitted against each other because a wise man by the name of jesus once said a house divided against itself cannot stand. and then i would encourage a culture of ridicule for basic morality and the principles that made and sustained the country. and then i would undermine the financial stability of the country and drive it so far into debt that there was absolutely no chance that it would cover and i would weaken the military and destroy the morale of the military. it appears, coincidentally

that those are the very things that are happening right now and the question is how do we stop it? >> all right. that was the moment there, where he said if i were to somehow magically find myself into the white house and everybody broke into applause and his fans hopes he magically finds himself in the the white house. and the political system we would be in a new era if somebody from outside the political system. i guess, herman cain he was outside and he ran. >> cpac is sort of a place for that and go through the party structure and running and having a deal with all that we saw during the the primary season. and it's a difficult road. >> tucker: as long as you don't meltdown, as long as we don't discover disqualifying about you and often that does happen unfortunately to good candidates, but if that doesn't happen in the internet age with the frustration you're witnessing on both

central section of the united states and a snow we'll track the next several days because it's headed to the northeast and monday night into tuesday morning we could be seeing snow across southern parts of new england, new york city and also pennsylvania. so the northeast brings more snow coming your way. right now again, that snow coming out across missouri and as far east asoo. on the other side of that system, accumulations should remain light. not a huge story, be careful on the roadways. we have blizzard watches and warnings across minnesota, sections of south and north dakota, talking easily over six inches possible and wind gusts up to 20 or 30 miles per hour and on the southern side of the system. severe weather, tornados, damaging wind gusts and large hail across little rock and also into memphis. we'll keep an eye on this stuff. otherwise, back to you guys. >> alisyn: thank you. >> clayton: coming up on the show the country's top spy

of them. remember the ripping off of dvd's and china was selling them on the streets. they said we're going to clamp down on copy right. and the name hackers, it bothers me, i think of somebody trying to get a bank account or information like that or trying to drive up traffic on a website, but they're trying to get state secrets. that doesn't sound to me like hackers. >> not only are they spies, but they're saboteurs going after critical infrastructure. the great 2003 blackout in the northeast, probably caused by a chinese hacker causing a cascade and a loss of power. and americans died in that. this is a serious issue. it's not just spying or hacking. >> during the heatwave we had folks dieing, the elderly. they're going off certain

agencies and we know that microsoft has been infiltrated, apple has been looked at and google has pulled out of china in part because of this. what are they going after? >> they're going after everything, not just the national security establishment. they're going after companies for information so that their state enterprises can better compete against us. going after critical infrastructure and also the institutions of a free society. ngo's, charities, advocacy groups. the free press, new york times, wall street journal. >> clayton: quickly what can we do? >> use our economic leverage against the chinese. they had the biggest surplus against us. and chinese's merchandise trade surplus against the u.s. was 136.3% of the overall surplus. that gives us enormous leverage if we care to use it. >> clayton: thanks so much for joining us. appreciate it. >> thank you. >> clayton: coming up on the show. how to fight the battle of the

>> 24 minutes now past the hour. quick headlines for you, a helicopter has crashed in afghanistan killing one n.a.t.o. soldier and injuring one other. the chopper went down west of kandahar city. the cause of that crash is unknown and the nationality of the soldier has not been released yet. health officials are now checking hundreds of people for rabies. they may have had close contact with an infected organ donor and four transplant recipients.

diet. >> you say you were struck when listening to colin powell, i think this can apply to dieting. don't be buffaloed by experts and elites, they often possess more than data. and as soon as they're nicked by the real world. how does this apply to dieting? >> you know, there are a lot of experts out there and they have all of their different ways of dieting and there are a number of food diets, we're eating calories, next day eating eggs, next day eating meat. diets don't work and winston churchill said, lies travel faster than the truth any day around the world. and that's true. we jump on that band wagon to stay on for ten minutes and we all fail at it. what i'm saying is develop your life. dieting and success in dieting

like anything else comes from inside out. create a life you're proud of, engage, engage people. do things that make you feel whole and then you're more apt to be successful when you go to choose a diet and i don't say what diet to choose. you know, that's something that you go to your doctor and you sit with him and you learn about the diets, but whatever you choose you mold it to your life. >> tucker: yes, here is a quote that resonates deeply true in my view. organizational charts and fancy titles count for next to nothing. and how does that apply to dieting? >> well, i use the example there of even marilyn monroe. she basically came on to the scene and took the country over and you know, in reality who was marilyn monroe? a girl that came in and literally, she exploded onto

the scene. the reality, she felt-- internally felt sex appeal, comes from confidence. so it doesn't matter what you title it, it matters what you put into your life and how you feel about yourself. >> alisyn: the very last one is important i think for everyone. perpetual optimism is a force multiplier. something that colin powell said, the message is have an optimistic outlook. >> and i use in that one. what i do with each chapter, i underscore each chapter with a leader, whether a cultural or an industry leader and this would transcend everything. and i use henry ford. what did he do? he was an optimistic person. he went and created the automobile. now, how crazy would that have been. sit down, here i'm going to make everybody -- but he was optimistic, so that joy and happiness, created the car and

all happened at once? >> it's a number of things. one, it's a very complex jump and both katie and i together have over 10,000 sky dives. so we knew we were taking on a risky jump and things that could create a problem and it's not your normal jump. if somebody does a tandem they're not exposed to this danger at all. we knew we were taking on more risk than the average skydive. >> clayton: any lessons you take away, anything you impart to your fellow skydivers from your experience. >> i tell somebody, don't give up no matter how bad the situation is, no matter how bad it looks, you've got it to keep fighting all the way to the ground and fighting for your life. >> clayton: others say get back on the horse. and you say just jump again.

found. nine-year-old may got lost when her sled team got tangled with another. she got loose and walked for seven days in the freezing cold, eating scraps, apparently left by other race teams. after about 400 miles of wandering, she was picked up by three people just 40 miles from where the race started and 50 miles from her home. she's being taken care of by a neighbor until she's returned to other owners today. >> clayton: wow. >> alisyn: remember the adorable students whose dreams of visiting the white house were dashed. >> the white house is our house. please let us visit. >> alisyn: well, st. paul's luthren church school in iowa went to the white house holding out hope they would be let in. unfortunately, students only made it to the gates. the students did get a very special tour of the capitol which is still open. house speaker john boehner let them view the national mall from his balcony and tour both chambers and the white house

people under 30. buttons and pins, "i stand with rand" they read. huge among libertarians. >> alisyn: and marco rubio considered an up and coming star, neck and neck with rand paul. tucker, the straw poll, do it have any bearing on who becomes the party's forerunner later. >> tucker: it has no predictive value and meaningless, but it's interesting, these are the most activity members of the conservative movement. this is the republican primary electorate, people who get out and caucus in iowa, new hampshire and the early primary states. so it does matter. it does give you some flavor for what the fields might look like. >> clayton: historically if you look at the straw poll results. they're not, as tucker pointed out, indicators of future candidates or winners, but for instance, mitt romney was a straw poll winner in the past and ron paul became a strong

that, and if there's ever a moment an independent candidate might get traction, ever a moment where the grass roots rise up and basically draft someone for president, it's this moment. they're frustrated with republican leadership. was it this moment, or the moment a few years ago when we saw the rise of the tea party and saw the likes of herman cain and sarah palin and saw what happened. >> tucker: i think it's much easier to raise money than it's ever been for a potential candidate like this. you have the internet. and people can mount challenges to the infrastructure and ross perot did, but they can do it much, much faster. and i think the path is clearer than it's ever been. >> alisyn: and the idea that philosophically people don't like politicians, they don't like capitol hill, they don't like the washington d.c.

machinery and structure. so the idea, people like romantically the idea of an outsider and maybe it just might work or when bush comes to shove do you need to work your way up. >> tucker: what is going on now is clearly not working and i was at cpac for two days, you didn't see speaker after speaker stand up and point to the republican congress as a success story. there are a lot of people hungry, so this could be the season. >> clayton: and those whose names go along with a particular budget maybe voting for particular tax increases come election time, you have the insurgent, you know, independent candidates and this gentleman in my party voted to raise taxes this year. they're worried about the taint of those votes going forward, too. and who can emerge who doesn't have the taint of congress to run. like ross perot. although it helps to have a couple billion in the bank.

a difference, the republicans more than twice as big as the democrats and it's all spending cuts and the democrats have, you see 1.85 trillion and half of that, almost a trillion dollars is in tax increases. so, you know, yes, they're both on the board. they both are going to present budgets. they'll each pass their own house and they'll go to conference and that's helpful. sort of what's called regular order where both sides actually go to the legislative process, but it's going to take a leap to get from where they are now to where they need to be and obviously, as before, the answer you're probably going to need a mix of some tax increases and some considerable entitlement reforms and cuts, whether each side is willing to go there we'll wait and see. >> what's your take on cpac having watched the past couple days. it seems that the they break into the libertarian side and

up the business of the senate until we get the survivors on record. i've talked to a couple and their story is chilling. they're scared to death to come forward without some institutional support. >> meanwhile, the white house preas secretary jay carney said that no one in the white house has bullied them or told them to be silent whatsoever, so now there are certainly people in congress who want more information. lindsey graham being just one. congressman frank wolf has called for a select committee for more answers and to get access to these survivors. we know a little more thanks to the great reporting of catherine herridge and james rosen in washington about their injuries. one of them had a very serious head injury. others had smoke inhalation, others were in the hospital for days, so it's just coming out in dribs and drabs of who the other survivors were, and also that there were 37 americans in benghazi who could have been witnesses. >> this is a turning point.

information of all the people that have supported him in the past, and that organization is really moving forward. dr. ben carson is such a breath of fresh air. he's subtle, except he also does something that a friend of mine e-mailed me yesterday and said he makes my heart sing, and i've been hearing this for a few different people that they maybe want something a little bit that's fresher. he doesn't speak in political speak. he doesn't have poll tested rhetoric that he uses. he speaks from the heart and people really like that, but if he is serious about moving forward with a bid, then i think someone needs to help get him thinking through some of the issues and also getting organized because it is a huge undertaking. remember, president obama raised almost a billion dollars to run in 2012. raising a billion dollars, that doesn't come without a lot of organization. >> i suspect dr. carson is getting a lot of e-mails from consultants. >> a lot of consultants got a bad rap at c pac. some of it deserved, but we have to on the republican side, on either party, you have to have

>> we'll get you the headlines. developing story to tell you about. you're about to see new video of the troubled carnival legend cruise ship. it pulled back into tampa a short time ago with more than 2500 passengers experiencing a disastrous week at sea. the ship was unable to reach full speed, had to eliminate two port stops on the seven-day tour. this th is the fourth carnival p in less than a month to experience problems. there's a missin missing i d dog that was found. he sled was tangled with another and may got loose and walked for seven days apparently in the freezing cold, and she survived by eating scraps left by other race teams. after about 400 miles of wandering, she was picked up by three people just 40 miles from where the race had begun and 50 miles from her home. may is being taking care of by a neighbor until she's reunited with her owners today. well, all they wanted to do was to visit the white house.

>> please come in and get warm. thank you, maria. new york is trying to earn the nanny state title. you can see employers in you've been rejected from a job. is this the answer for solving the unemployment. cheryl casone joins us to break it down. what's going on with this? >> so it was passed this week. it goes into effect in three months here in new york city, and basically if you interview for a job and you feel that you were discriminated against because you've been on the unemployment dole for longer than average, you can sue that company. i think the intention is very good, and the law, certainly. the problem is that employers, i believe, are going to hold back from bringing anyone into the office for an interview if they've got, say, six months or longer of a ima gap on the resé. that's one in three unemployed. that's a big swath of the population. i'm not sure it's goggles work. >> suing might not be the answer. for a lot of the country, it won't be the case. you have some tips for the long term unemployed starting with staying relevant. >> right. >> staying relevant to potential

employers? >> you need to stay relevant while -- don't just sit at home and eat ice cream and watch tv. watch "fox & friends". i'm fine with that, but you want to be, you know, volunteering. go to the aspca and volunteer in the office. say you're an accountant. go in there and help them with the books. they need that type of help in many organizations. that way you've got something going on on that resumé. you're filling the gap, but also you're getting out of the house. you're doing something. you're not just sitting around feeling sorry for yourself. >> when you meet with potential employers, you also say be honest. >> you've got to be honest about why there's a gap on your resumé. obviously it's very important to say i've got a specific job, i've got a specific field. it's been tough for me. i've interviewed for xyz positions and it hasn't happened. people that do sales and things like that, there's going to be that question of well, have you maintained your contacts. that's another thing you can do. maintain your contacts. keep those e-mails going to people you worked with in your previous job. that can help you when you need that network of people or customers in your new job, for

instance. >> you also utilize on line training. there's all kinds of great on line education free tough on itunes to paid stuff and kelby training. >> i had no idea there was something called itunes u. you would know that. on line courses are cheap and available. again, that's something that you can put in the fill space on the resumé. you've got an empty block of six months, nine months a year, but you say i've been going back to school, i'm training. make sure it's in the field relevant to you. a lot of people are using this time because we've got unemployment at 7.7% to go into aa new field. i always recommend jobs that can give you income. it may not be the dream job you want but it's something to get you by in the meantime. again, that goes in the resumé, so all of this, again, this law, i understand it, i think it's a good idea. what i think they should have done is what new jersey did. the state of new jersey is offering tax breaks to employers that will bring in long term
